Entry Requirements
You must have a Level 2 Carpentry & Joinery or Bricklaying qualification and be aged 19 or over. You must be living in the York and North Yorkshire area. Residents from outside this area are also welcome, however there are stipulations to their entry on the course.

Skills Bootcamps are part of the Government’s Lifetime Skills Guarantee, helping everyone gain skills for life.

Skills Bootcamps are free, flexible courses of up to 16 weeks, giving people the opportunity to build up sector-specific skills and fast-track to an interview with a local employer.

This course, run in conjunction with Yorkshire homebuilding company Pure Haus, is applicable to construction operatives, site managers, employed, self-employed and unemployed.

If you have a qualification in carpentry and joinery/bricklaying, then this could be the course for you. Working with experts at Pure Haus construction, you will spend 1 day per week for 6 weeks in a classroom looking at the areas of Passive Haus construction outlined below

Following the theory side of the course, you will spend four days on site (over 4 weeks), putting your learning into practice.

The course will give you an insight into the future of building, the techniques used and the reason behind the principles at Pure Haus. This will ensure you are prepared to deliver the buildings of tomorrow, today. With the spiralling cost of energy, there has never been a better time to upskill. It will prepare you for potential employment and look at core work skills required.

The course will also include retrofit principles and techniques.

Assessments

There will be no formal assessments.

Course fees

This is a fully funded free course.

Course progression

You may wish to progress on to further qualifications in joinery or bricklaying.

On completion of the course, if applicable, you will be offered an interview with a company relating to green construction skills.

Dates & course durations

29th September 2022, 1 day per week (Thursday), for 10 weeks.

Study methods

Working with experts at Pure Haus construction, you will spend 1 day per week for 6 weeks in a classroom looking at the areas of Passive Haus construction outlined.

Following on from the theory side of the course, you will then spend four days on site (over 4 weeks), putting what you have learnt into practice.

Students have access to a fantastic range of College-wide facilities such as the Learning & Research Centre, study hubs, computer areas with accompanying multi-function printers and helpdesk advice.

Additional costs

All materials are provided for you to complete the course. However, some courses may require additional study from home, you may need access to a PC/laptop and suitable Wi-Fi to access teaching and learning.

Career progression

On completion of the course, if applicable, you will be offered an interview with a company relating to green construction skills.
