International Study at York College

York College & University Centre is a vibrant, friendly College and one of the United Kingdom's leading further education colleges. We offer a range of high-quality courses for international students and hold a worldwide reputation as an outstanding education provider.

Studying here means Level 3 qualifications taught alongside British students, in a historic city that is small enough to feel safe and well connected enough to reach the rest of the country easily.

What You Can Study

Two routes are open to international students, both at Level 3:

Most of our overseas students choose A Levels, but any full-time vocational course at Level 3 is open to you.

We are unable to sponsor international students wishing to study higher education courses. That includes degrees, Access courses and Higher National Certificates or Diplomas.

Who Can Apply

To study with us as an international student, you must:

  • Be aged between 16 and 18
  • Have turned 16 by 1 June preceding that year's September intake
  • Be applying for a course at Level 3

There is no January intake on any of our courses, because our exams are externally administered and assessed. All students start in September.

H2: Fees for 2026/27

Our fee structure varies across different study programmes and starts from:

Tuition fees for 2026/27 - £8800

Accommodation fees for 2026/27 - £8800

We do not have scholarships or other financial support available for international students, so it is worth planning your full budget before you apply.

How to Apply

Applications for 2026/27 open on 1 January 2026 and close on 31 March 2026. Apply early rather than waiting for the deadline, because visa applications take time to process.

Our application guidance sets out the full process, including the documents you will need, what happens after you apply and the visa requirements that apply to you.

Where You Will Live

Accommodation through the College costs £8,800 for the year, and our student accommodation page explains how it works.

Living with a local host is the fastest way to settle into a new country. You practise English every day, you eat with people who know the city, and you have someone nearby if something goes wrong.

FAQS

How old do you need to be?

Between 16 and 18. You must have turned 16 by 1 June preceding the September you want to start, so check that date against your birthday before you apply.

When is the application deadline?

31 March 2026 for the 2026/27 intake. We recommend applying well before then rather than waiting, because visa applications need a substantial amount of processing time.

Is there a January intake?

No. Every course starts in September, because our exams are set and marked externally and follow their calendar.

Are there scholarships or bursaries for international students?

No. We do not have scholarships or other financial support available, so plan for the full cost of tuition and accommodation from the start.

Can international students study a degree at York College?

Not with us as your sponsor. We are unable to sponsor international students for higher education, so degrees, Access courses and Higher National Certificates or Diplomas are not available to you here.

Can you take an international vocational course instead of A Levels?

Yes. Most international students here take A Levels, but any full-time course at Level 3 is open to you, including our International Vocational Courses.

Where can you find answers to other questions?

Our international FAQs cover more of what applicants ask, and our International Team is reachable at international@yorkcollege.ac.uk for anything not answered there.
