Bricklaying City & Guilds Diploma Level 2
This practical, hands-on course builds on your bricklaying skills, allowing you to learn, develop, and practice the techniques required for employment in the construction industry.
You will spend 60% of your time in the workshop honing your practical skills and 40% in the classroom covering essential theory to prepare for online tests. To excel in this course, you must demonstrate:

- Excellent attendance and punctuality
- Basic bricklaying knowledge (ideally from a Level 1 course or relevant experience)
This course is designed to enhance your skills, boost your employability, and prepare you for a successful career in the bricklaying and construction industry.
Entry requirements
A minimum of 3 GCSE subjects at grade 4 or above including English and Maths, or you can progress from the Bricklaying Diploma Level 1.
What will I study?
- Health, Safety and Welfare in Construction – Understanding essential safety regulations and best practices on-site.
- Principles of Building Construction, Information and Communication – Learning advanced construction concepts and how to interpret complex building information.
- Interpreting Working Drawings to Set Out Masonry Structures – Developing the skills to read technical drawings and accurately set out masonry structures.
- Producing Thin Joint Masonry and Masonry Cladding – Gaining experience in modern bricklaying techniques, including thin joint systems.
- Building Solid Walling, Isolated and Attached Piers – Enhancing your ability to construct structurally sound walls and support systems.
- Constructing Cavity Walling Formations – Learning advanced techniques for building insulated cavity walls to industry standards.
Additional costs

Method of delivery
This programme will be delivered in our modern workshops and classrooms, focusing on developing your practical skills, knowledge and professional behaviours ready for assessment. All assessments will be carried out in accordance with awarding body guidelines. To ensure you are fully prepared, we will support you in building your skills, knowledge, and confidence, giving you the best opportunity to reach your full potential. Our curriculum is structured to align with industry needs, guiding you through each stage of your learning journey.
How will I be assessed?
Practical and theory work will be assessed in line with awarding body requirements. This will be a mixture of online externally set and marked examinations and practical synoptic assessments.
Good course combinations
This is a full-time course. It is not possible to combine this course with other Vocational, T Level, Apprenticeship or A Level programmes.
Your next steps
This qualification will allow you to progress into employment or on to an apprenticeship in Bricklaying. Some of our students then go on to higher-level courses in construction.
