Painting & Decorating City & Guilds Diploma Level 2
The Level 2 Diploma in Painting & Decorating is designed to build upon foundational skills and knowledge, preparing you for more advanced tasks in the painting and decorating industry.
This course focuses on both the practical and theoretical aspects of the trade, ensuring that you are well-equipped to handle a variety of projects with increased complexity.
Entry requirements
You can only progress to the Level 2 Diploma if you have passed/achieved Painting & Decorating Diploma Level 1.
What will I study?
Throughout the course you will learn advanced techniques for preparing surfaces, applying coatings, and using various materials to achieve high-quality finishes. You will be trained in more complex tasks such as decorative effects, specialist finishes, and the application of advanced wallpapering techniques. The course includes interpreting detailed technical specifications, manufacturers' instructions, and drawings, ensuring that you can work efficiently and accurately.
Health and safety remain a critical component of the course to further your understanding of adhering to regulations and use of personal protective equipment (PPE) to maintain a safe working environment. The course also emphasizes the selection and use of appropriate tools and materials, sustainable practices, and efficient resource management.

Additional costs

Method of delivery
This programme will be delivered in our modern workshops and classrooms, focusing on developing your practical skills, knowledge and professional behaviours ready for assessment. All assessments will be carried out in accordance with awarding body guidelines. To prepare you prior to your assessments, we will build up your skills, knowledge and behaviours to give you the best chance of achieving your potential. We will sequence the curriculum delivery to meet industry needs and work with you through each step to build your confidence.
How will I be assessed?
Practical and theory work will be assessed in line with awarding body requirements. This will be a mixture of online externally set and marked examinations and practical synoptic assessments.
Good course combinations
This is a full-time course. It is not possible to combine this course with other Vocational, T Level, Apprenticeship or A Level programmes.

By the end of the Level 2 Diploma, you will have developed evidence showcasing your work and skills, preparing you for further training or more advanced positions in the painting and decorating industry. This Diploma provides a solid foundation for those looking to progress to higher levels of expertise and responsibility, setting the stage for progression into an apprenticeship and a successful career in the trade.
On completion, you can progress on to the next level where appropriate or go on to find employment in order to transfer to an apprenticeship. Some of our students then go on to higher-level courses in construction.
