What you'll cover
Play in a Day is an exciting, fast-paced theatre workshop where participants collaborate to create, rehearse, and perform an original piece of theatre—all within a single day. Working from an initial creative stimulus, you’ll explore ideas as a group and bring them to life through both performance and production roles.
A key focus of the day is that everyone experiences all elements of theatre-making. Participants will not only perform in the final piece, but will also take an active role in the technical and production side—meaning you will both perform in a show and tech a show, This will take place in our fantastic facilities of our black box theatre and our studio spaces, using professional spaces and industry standard equipment.
Throughout the workshop, you’ll develop a wide range of performing arts skills, including devising, physical theatre, script work, and characterisation. Alongside this, you’ll gain hands-on experience in production, exploring lighting design, sound design and set. You’ll learn how these technical elements are created and how they work together to support a live performance.
The day is structured so that participants collaborate as a full company—sharing ideas, rotating responsibilities where appropriate, and building an understanding of how all aspects of theatre connect.
Running from 10:00am to 4:00pm, the workshop culminates in an informal performance at the end of the day. This final sharing is a celebration of the group’s creativity and teamwork.
Perfect for anyone interested in theatre, Play in a Day offers a dynamic, inclusive environment to explore the full process of creating and staging a performance—from first idea to final show.
