2027 will mark our 200-year anniversary. Since our origins back in 1827, we have grown to become the largest further education college in the region, offering the widest choice of courses. Some of our former students may not recognise the College as it is today. Our current campus was entirely rebuilt in 2007 during a £60 million redevelopment programme – meaning we combine nearly 200 years of experience with the very best, modern facilities. So what better time than now to (re)connect with our former students?

Provide work placement opportunities
As part of our Alumni Community, you can give back by offering our current students the chance to gain real-world experience in their field of study. This can be either an apprenticeship or a work placement as part of their T Level or vocational course.
Become a mentor
Your experience and advice can help our students’ personal development and professional growth. By becoming a mentor, you can guide students through challenges, offer career advice and help them set achievable goals.
Be a guest speaker
Inspire and motivate our current students by sharing your professional story and expertise. As a guest speaker, you can discuss your career, challenges, industry trends and success stories during a workshop, presentation or careers’ event.
Take part in employer speed interviews
Give our students the chance to practise answering interview questions linked to our Brilliant Futures Pledge by taking part in mock speed interviewing and giving them meaningful feedback.
Notable Alumni
Did you know that many former York College & University students have gone on to achieve leading success in all walks of life? From sports starts to actors and activists, here are a few you might have heard of:
Our sporting Alumni include former Level 3 Extended Diploma in Sports Coaching & Development student Ben Godfrey, who went on to become a Premier League footballer; former Sports & Exercise Science student Jack Leaning, who made his Yorkshire first-team debut at the age of 18; former Level 3 Diploma in Sport student Rachel Day, who went on to become one of the best female footballers England has ever produced; former BTEC National Diploma in Sports and Exercise Science student Lauren Winfield-Hill, who went on to play international cricket for England; former Level 3 Sport student Greg Minikin, who has played in the Rugby Super League for Castleford Tigers, Hull Kingston Rovers and Warrington Wolves, and former BTEC Level 3 Diploma in Business students, twin brothers Ronaldo and Romario Vieira, who both went on to become professional footballers.
Our Media Make-up Department Alumni have achieved many accolades, with former student Nadia Stacey scooping an Oscar for Best Makeup & Hairstyling, Freda Ellis winning an Emmy award for Outstanding Contemporary Makeup and Lisa Parkinson picking up a BAFTA for Best Make Up and Hair Design.
Meanwhile, our Performance & Production Alumni include former Level 3 Performing & Production Arts student Ollie Briscombe, who made his acting feature debut in Alan Bennett's The Choral; Coronation Street actress Beth Nixon; leading actress Taj Atwal, known for her roles in Line of Duty and In the Club; and actress, comedian and writer (and most recently star of Big Brother) Donna Preston.
Other notable York College & University Alumni include vegan animal rights activist and author Ed Winters; leading wildlife artist Robert E Fuller, who studied a BTEC National Diploma Course in Art & Design with us; and Maths whizz Daniel Lightwing.
