The T Level qualification has been designed by a panel of employers, professional bodies, and education specialists. The purpose of the Level 3 Technical qualification is to ensure that students have the knowledge and skills to progress into skilled employment or higher-level training relevant to the T Level.

This qualification is a combination of classroom theory, practical learning, and industry placement (work placement) with an employer. It is for students who want to work as electricians in the building services engineering sector. Please note that this qualification does not make candidates fully qualified electricians or electrical installation engineers. To become fully qualified you must achieve the Level 3 Apprenticeship.

Entry requirements

A minimum of 4 GCSEs at grade 4 or above including English and Sciences and GCSE Maths at grade 5.

What will I study?

The Technical Qualification is the main classroom-based element of the course and consists of two components:

Core Content
The Core Content is designed to offer sufficient breadth of knowledge and skills for you to apply in a variety of contexts related to the industry and those occupational specialisms linked to this T Level.

It provides the building blocks of knowledge and skills that will give you a broad understanding of the industry you choose and job roles. At the same time, it will develop the core skills you will need to apply when working within the industry.

    Occupational Specialisms
    Occupational Specialisms develop the knowledge, skills and behaviours necessary to achieve threshold competence in an occupation. Threshold competence is defined as when your attainment against the knowledge, skills and behaviours is of a standard to enable you to enter the occupation and industry. You must also demonstrate the ability to achieve occupational competence over time with the correct support and training.

    The Occupational Specialism we offer for this route is Electrotechnical Engineering (Electrical Installation).


    Additional costs

    You will require the necessary Personal Protective Equipment (PPE) of safety boots, trousers and College logo polo shirt. For further information please ask our tutors at our open events and guidance discussions.

    Industry placement

    The 45 day industry placement allows you to develop your occupational specialism skills as well as those necessary to working in any environment, such as effective planning, working with others, health and safety and promoting equality and diversity.

    Method of delivery

    This programme will be delivered in our modern workshops and classrooms, using our fantastic industry standard equipment. We will be focusing on developing your practical skills, underpinning knowledge and professional behaviours ready for assessment. All assessments will be carried out in accordance with awarding body guidelines. To prepare you prior to your assessments, we will build up your skills, knowledge and behaviours to give you the best chance of achieving your potential. We will sequence the curriculum delivery to meet industry needs and work with you through each step to build your confidence. You will be participating in an industry placement throughout your programme.

    You will attend College 4 days per week in Year One and 3 days per week in Year Two.

    Successful completion of 315 hours industry placement over two academic years.

    You may progress into employment, an apprenticeship, higher apprenticeship or higher-level of study, including university.

    UCAS tariff points were allocated to T Levels in 2019, with the top T Level grade equal to achieving 3 A* at A Level. Points have been allocated to the overall T Level grade, and students must achieve at least an overall pass grade to receive UCAS points.
