Foundation Degree (FdA) Business Management
The qualification is suitable for anyone hoping to gain a solid academic foundation in business or management and is aimed at those who would like a good knowledge of all business aspects.
Students could be school leavers or could be currently employed in any sector so long as they have an interest in how businesses run, and aspirations to progress a career in management. This course will be delivered on two days a week, 3pm-7.30pm to fit around your other commitments.
Completion of this course would improve job prospects in the business sector and also allows progression onto our BA (Hons) Business Management (Top-up) one year course to convert your foundation degree into a full degree.
The programme is equipped to provide you with a comprehensive base of key theoretical concepts and practical situations, with a strong focus on career prospects, as well as teaching and learning strategies to develop vital employability skills which will allow you to thrive in professional situations.
You will develop your knowledge and skills for contemporary organisations, with flexible delivery options to suit your personal needs, whilst working with dedicated tutors who are on-hand to support you whenever you need it.

Entry requirements
48 UCAS tariff points. Level 3 qualification in a relevant subject or A Levels. Applicants with significant relevant prior learning and experience may be considered.
How will I be assessed?
Assessment for each unit takes place using a mix of methods including; essays, reports, presentations, exams and research projects.
Skills you will learn
Throughout the course students will develop skills in critical thinking, effective communication, self-management, adaptability, resilience, self-analysis and reflection, budget management/ monitoring, negotiating and influencing and self-presentation.
Method of delivery
This is a classroom-based course. Teaching will primarily include lectures, seminars and workshops. There will be a requirement for students to engage with online resources over the duration of the course and you will need to undertake independent study outside of taught sessions.

No additional costs are expected for this course, although students should have access to an internet enabled laptop or PC.

Chris has been a business lecturer for 10 years and has over 25 years of teaching experience in a variety of organisations, including secondary schools and sixth form colleges. He previously worked in shipping, accounting at a pharmaceutical’s distribution company and in the fraud department of a major high street bank. His main academic interests are microeconomics, ethics and customer experience management. Chris also currently works as the Treasurer of a local co-operative public house in York and is a member of the Chartered Management Institute (CMI).
MA in Professional Development, CIPD Post-Graduate Diploma in HRM, Cert Ed, has been a Business and Management lecturer for 30+ years. She has significant experience designing, implementing and delivering a wide range of HE programmes across a range of curriculum. Her experience in industry includes Employment Consultancy and Employment and Redundancy Liaison, involvement in local/regional partnership committees at strategic level, dealing with redundancy, employment issues and legislation in organisations across the region. Her main academic interests are Strategic Human Resource Management, Employment Legislation and Equality and Diversity.
