Accounts or Finance Assistant
The Accounts or Finance Assistant is responsible for assisting accountants with routine duties. These can vary depending on the team structure and size of business. They use digital finance and accounting systems and tools to collate and enter data. An Accounts or Finance Assistant’s work includes tasks such as financial and accounting data entry and basic bookkeeping duties. They will also work with sales or purchase ledgers. They will run calculations to ensure that records and payments are correct and may be involved in the recording of cash transactions.
Entry requirements
You must be employed in a relevant role for a minimum of 30 hours per week. As a minimum, you should have 3 GCSEs or equivalent at grade 3 or above, including English and Maths
What will I study?
This apprenticeship will give you the knowledge, skills and behaviours required to work as an Accounts or Finance Assistant and will include the following:
- Awareness of the organisation’s needs and activities and their impact for accounting and finance
- Identifying, collating and processing financial and accounting data for primary sources such as business records
- Examining financial and accounting data to identify issues with quality and reliability as instructed and in accordance with guidance
- How to rectify errors in financial and accounting data, escalating problems beyond their remit as appropriate
- How to reconcile transactional data to minimise the chance of errors in financial and accounting outputs such as sales and purchase invoices, sale and purchase orders, bank statements and payroll
- Planning and reviewing workloads with supervisor to ensure best use of time to complete allocated tasks efficiently
- How to communicate with internal and external stakeholders using appropriate methods and professional language
- Using financial and accounting software packages to input and manage data safely and securely in line with organisational instructions
- Providing support to team members to help ensure that financial and accounting activities are carried out within expected timescales and quality expectations
- Keeping up to date with developments to enhance relevant skills and take responsibility for own professional development
Method of delivery
Apprentices will typically study online, utilising the Mindful Education platform with some attendance in college. During their time studying, apprentices will work towards developing their knowledge, skills and behaviours, and at work will consolidate their on-programme learning with the support of their employer. An assessor/reviewer will visit the workplace every 8-10 weeks to discuss and monitor progress on the apprenticeship in conjunction with the employer.
How will I be assessed?
Continual assessment will take place throughout the duration of the apprenticeship.
The End-Point Assessment (EPA) will comprise of an integrated knowledge test, by sitting and passing the exams throughout the course. A 60-minute professional discussion with a minimum of 6 questions asked to demonstrate the knowledge, skills and behaviours obtained during your apprenticeship.

There are no specific College programme related costs, however you will be advised of any additional costs during your application and enrolment process.

Accounts or Finance Assistant Apprenticeship Level 2
AAT Level 2 Certificate in Accounting
Institute of Certified Bookkeepers Certificate in Bookkeeping
Institute of Accountants and Bookkeepers Level 2 Certificate in Accounting and Business
Good course qualifications
This is a full-time course. It is not possible to combine this course with other Vocational, T Level or A Level programmes.
