The Business Foundation Diploma/Extended Diploma offers progression routes to higher education, providing an excellent introduction to the business sector and giving you an edge when progressing to higher education and employment or higher apprenticeships.
Studying the Extended Diploma will be your first step towards a new career, with employability at heart, and will provide you with the right blend of technical and academic skills in order to become the highly skilled, work-ready individual that employers and universities look for. The Extended Diploma Level 3 is equivalent to 3 A Levels. The programme aims to provide students with an in-depth understanding of the operations and structures of businesses.
4 or 5 GCSE subjects at grade 4 or above including English and Maths.
What will I study?
On this programme you will study towards a Diploma in Business. The course is equivalent to 3 AS Levels over one year for the Level 3 Diploma. After successful completion of this year it is possible to continue onto a second year to gain the Extended Diploma qualification, which is equivalent to 3 A Levels. This course would be suitable for anyone interested in studying business at university or a higher level, or taking on a leadership or management role in any industry.

During the second year of the programme there is the opportunity to follow a pathway of studies in one of the following areas:

Method of delivery
Your studies will be across three full days per week. These will be mainly classroom based but you will also experience some experiential learning. Your studies will comprise a combination of 30 % online learning and 70% face-to-face onsite, with 90% classroom based and 10% undertaking simulated experiential learning or practical activities. Our methods of delivery will include to large groups of students online, accompanied by workshops, tutorials, some independent studies, problem solving and work-based learning.
How will I be assessed?
There will be a combination of assessment styles for you to demonstrate your knowledge, skills and understanding in a range of work-related contexts. All work is internally assessed and externally moderated.
Good course combinations
This is a full-time course. It is not possible to combine this course with other Vocational, Apprenticeships or A Level programmes.
Your next steps
Progression from this course would include higher education, higher apprenticeships or employment. A wide range of business roles in areas such as retail, administration, legal and finance are possible for students completing the course as well as leadership and management roles in a variety of public and private sector organisations.
