Art School: Drawing and Painting (Introduction)
This course is suitable for people of all abilities who are interested in learning about the techniques and skills necessary to create drawings and paintings. These sessions will also introduce a contextual framework for students work and give them a greater understanding on how to progress to a higher level.

There are no formal entry requirements, and anyone can enrol. This course is suitable for people of all abilities who are interested in learning about the techniques and skills necessary to create drawings and paintings.

This course is suitable for people of all abilities who are interested in learning about the techniques and skills necessary to create drawings and paintings.
Drawing and painting has been at the forefront of the arts for generations. This course will allow students to be part of this exciting genre and explore their creativity. These
sessions will also introduce a contextual framework for students work and give
them a greater understanding on how to progress to a higher level.
Through the introduction
of traditional and contemporary modes of observation and the exploration of the
use of medium, students will be allowed the freedom to find their own visual
language. As students' work develops, a historical and contextual engagement
relating to their own way of working will be discussed and taught.
Students will partake in the drawing and painting of a still life set up in the studio. The tutor will be on hand at all times to discuss individuals work and offer advice when required.
At the end of the five week course students will have had the opportunity to produce a selection of drawings and paintings in a range of materials and leave with a greater understanding of their own abilities.
Assessments
There is no formal completion qualification and students will be able to work at their own pace.

Completion of this course will enable students to progress on to various other Art & Design courses available at York College, including our other Art School courses.
