Italian - Beginners 3
This course is for students who have completed Beginner II or can confidently speak about people, places, and give directions.
Students will acquire basic communication skills in Italian, for use in a variety of familiar useful situations such as when you’re on holiday or travelling for work.
Entry requirements
This course is for learners who have already completed at least 20 hours of learning and have a basic understanding of the grammar such as nouns, adjectives, and verb formation.
Course units
- Describing hobbies and leisure activities
- Expressing likes, dislikes, and preferences
- Agreeing and disagreeing in conversation
- Talking about the weather and related activities
- Shopping at markets: vocabulary for food, and quantities
- Describing daily routines (using “I,” “he,” and “she” forms)
Grammar focus:
- Verbs like piacere (e.g., mi piace)
- Reflexive verbs (e.g., mi sveglio, si alza)
- Additional irregular verbs in the present tense
- Expanding sentence structure for more fluent communication
By the end of this level, you’ll be able to express opinions, talk about your day, and participate in real-life situations more naturally.
Assessments
There are no formal assessments required, students will be awarded with a York College certificate upon completion.

Study methods
This is a classroom-based course and will be taught with a focus on listening, understanding and speaking with an introduction to reading and writing.
Facilities
Students have access to a fantastic range of College-wide facilities such as the Learning & Research Centre, study hubs, computer areas with accompanying multi-function printers and helpdesk advice.
Additional costs
All materials are provided for you to complete the course. However, some courses may require additional study from home, you may need access to a PC/laptop and suitable Wi-Fi to access teaching and learning. You will be made aware of any additional study time at the time of enrolment.
