More brilliant news for Isaac Cook, who has been accepted into the RAF and is celebrating his Uniformed Protective Services course results today after gaining two Distinctions and a Merit.

“I did the UPS course because I thought it would be my best way of getting into the RAF as, with the tutors at College, I knew I’d be receiving help from people who have been through the process before.

“Also, for me to get in the RAF, I needed to run 2.4km in 13 minutes. I could do it in 15 minutes before our tutor Dave helped me, but now I can do it in 11 thanks to his sessions in the gym, on the playing fields or, on a sunny day, during a lap of the Knavesmire!

“My advice to anybody considering doing UPS would be to make sure you listen to the tutors, because they can help you out more than you think. I’m nervous about choosing the Military over my family, because I know there will be a lot of time away from them with the amount of travelling I’ll be doing, but I also feel prepared, because I’ve been waiting for years to do this and the UPS course has helped me so much in terms of that preparation.”

Congratulations to Sam Thomas, who is heading off to the University of Leeds to study International Business after excelling on our Esports – Business & Digital Innovation course, achieving two Distinction* grades and a Distinction.

“The main skills I developed on the course were leadership, teamwork and adaptability and they are skills I will need for a business career, 100 per cent. I also really enjoyed the course’s Enterprise and Entrepreneurship module and that’s what helped inspire my decision to apply for the International Business course.

“Joe, our tutor, encouraged us to go and do our own independent research, whilst also being there if we encountered problems and that has helped me prepare for university-level study. I love exploring and travelling, too, so I’m hoping to get a place on a programme at university, which will allow me to study and go on work placement for a year in Australia.”

A big well done to our Fine Art, Biology, German and Psychology A Level student Emily Mayer, whose results, including an A* in Fine Art, have secured her a very exciting opportunity to study a degree course in Italy. Ben fatto, Emily!

“I really enjoyed the freedom to express myself at College, particularly during my Fine Art A Level, where I experimented with media that I’d not had the opportunity to work with before, improved techniques and developed artistically. I also liked the practical side of the course which was one of the main reasons for choosing it.

“I’m now going on to study a three-year Design (Furniture/Product) course at the University of Bolzano in South Tyrol. It’s a tri-lingual region with people speaking English, German and Italian and, while the first year is all in English, I’ll need to learn some Italian, so I’m looking forward to their free intensive Italian course for beginners when I start in September.”

Ahead of the celebrations today, here is a message from Ken Merry, York College & University Centre Principal and Chief Executive:

"For many of our students, the wait for Level 3 results day can feel like a lifetime. Whether studying A Levels, T Levels, or other vocational qualifications, today marks the moment when all that dedication, focus, and determination is recognised.

"These results are the product of two – and in some cases three or four – years of incredible hard work, perseverance, and resilience. We couldn’t be prouder to see so many of our students achieving fantastic grades, and we’re thrilled to announce that this year’s results are even better than last year!

"For many, these grades are the launchpad to exciting new chapters – from prestigious university courses to competitive apprenticeships or stepping straight into rewarding careers. Whatever their chosen path, it’s inspiring to hear the amazing opportunities our students are embracing next.

"Every conversation about their future plans reminds us why we do what we do, and just how special it is to play a part in their journey.

"From all of us at York College, congratulations to our brilliant students. We wish you every success in your next adventure – and hope today is filled with celebration, pride, and plenty of smiles."
