T Level student Isabel Udall-James, from Sherburn in Elmet, achieved a distinction star and is now a degree apprentice with construction company VINCI Construction.

She said: “I didn’t quite expect the distinction star – it was a shock.

“My T Level was a good learning experience and real eye-opener. There was a lot of studying but my favourite bit was being on work placement. I worked with VINCI Construction on the Guildhall in York and that was an amazing experience. From 1st August I started as a degree apprentice Site Engineer with VINCI Construction on a five year part-time Bachelors in Civil Engineering.

“My T level was a great stepping-stone into the construction industry.”

“I’m extremely pleased with my A Level results as they’ve meant that I’ve been accepted to my first choice of university, Loughborough University, to study BEng (Hons) Sports Technology. While studying here I was also able to be part of the women’s football team alongside my studies, which provided a really great balance between achieving my academic goals and having an outlet for stress release in playing sport. I’ve really enjoyed my time at York College and it’s helped me to develop into the person I am today.”

Congratulations to Joe Stamp, former Huntington School student who has completed his Sport Coaching & Development Level 3 Extended Diploma and achieved triple Distinction* (D*D*D*)

“I’ve loved every second of studying at York College, it’s been the quickest two years of my life. My sports tutors were excellent and I going to miss them all. Overall, College has been a fantastic experience and I’m so pleased with my grades. Being able to combine studying and playing for the men’s football team has been great. Also, had I not come to York College I would not have known about or been put forward for the England College’s football team for which I trialled and successfully gained a place.

In the future, I’m looking at studying a sport related course at Leeds Beckett University.”

A word from Danny Brett, our Deputy Chief Executive Officer and Principal, on the fabulous results of our T Level students

“This fabulous set of T Level results are a testament to the commitment of our students, tutors, and support teams. They’ve all worked incredibly hard, throughout a period of unprecedented disruption.

“As a college we are proud to have supported this first cohort of T-Level students, which culminated in these incredible results, including a large proportion of distinction and distinction * grades.

“We see today as an excellent start to the College’s T Level journey, and we look forward to supporting further T Level students throughout their studies here at York College in the months and years to come, in a wider than ever range of T Level subjects.

“A huge well done to each of our graduating students, as a College, we could not be prouder of what you have achieved.”

“My dad worked in construction and he suggested I try quantity surveying, I wasn’t sure at first but then I said I would give it a go.

Well done to Molly Trousdale, Previously of Manor CE Academy. Molly is studying Engineering Draughtsperson Apprenticeship at Siemens and is half way though her Level 3 course.

“I really like my apprenticeship as I am getting hands on experiences in the workshops as well as the more in-depth all-round knowledge of engineering. My experience has been great as I get to learn how things work and why they work, and I can then apply this knowledge to my workshop tasks, which helps to develop my skills and knowledge. I managed to get Distinctions for all of my units in the first year. The staff are really supportive and are great to collaborate with, they help us develop wider skills as well – such as our professional behaviours which help prepare us for the workplace. After my apprenticeship I intend to carry on my career at Siemens and take an HNC. I will also continue to become better at my job and hopefully gain higher positions in the company.

James Longstaff, former St Aidan’s Church of England School pupil
Studied: Business Extended Diploma Level 3 and achieved triple Distinction*.

“I chose the course as it enabled me to follow the subject I enjoyed most and the one I knew I wanted to continue to study at university. My tutors have been incredibly helpful all the way through my course and this has contributed towards my improved confidence and grade. I achieved D*D*D* and I’m really pleased with my results.”

Our Principal and Chief Executive Lee Probert congratulates all students receiving results today...

“This year’s A Level cohort sat formal exams for the first time since primary school.

“Testament to their hard work we’re celebrating their best ever high-grade profile with 11.3% of students achieving A* grades. More than half of our A Level students achieved A*, A and B grades and 51 of our students achieved all A* and A grades. These are hugely impressive outcomes.

“Alongside A Level results, we also celebrate all Level 3 vocational results, including this year’s first ever T Level cohort, where 100% of students passed these brand new qualifications.

“Having completed their GCSE studies in lockdown, these students returned to learning with the determination to succeed and that is what they have done.

“The support we provide for students doesn’t end here, and we’re available to provide advice and guidance to any students who need support to pursue their next steps. There are plenty of options to consider after a successful level three outcome including; high quality degree apprenticeships, higher level vocational qualifications, as well as degree level study at university.

“Whatever they do next, we’re tremendously proud of them and wish them every success for the future.”
