Why York College University Centre

York College University Centre: Why study a degree with us?

We'll be exploring the top reasons why studying your degree or higher-level course at our University Centre might just be the perfect fit for you, an institution that offers flexible and personalised learning, supported to suit your career aspirations.

Access to Tutor Support

Our class sizes mean students get more contact time with our expertly trained tutors and receive outstanding student support in and outside of class.

Unlike larger institutions, here at York College University Centre you'll receive a personalised approach to your learning and our students have great relationships with our tutors.

"It was almost like a fashion family at York College University Centre, I had a really good experience. We were always well supported and the skills that we learned really help to set us up for the industry."

Hannah, BA (Hons) Fashion & Garment Technology

Flexible Study Options

We ensure that our students have a good study/life balance. We do this by ensuring that our courses have a flexible approach to delivery. This gives students the opportunity to maximise spare time for part-time work or other commitments alongside achieving their qualification.

Lots of our courses have full and part-time options, and we condense timetables to maximise time for other commitments and to reduce travel costs and time spent commuting.

"My overall experience was brilliant and my course tutors made the time incredible. We were offered one-on-one support which is harder to come by in bigger universities. York College University Centre is a close knit group. My workplace is based close to the College so this meant I didn't have to spend lots of time commuting, so I could maximise my spare time effectively."

Adam, HNC Construction & the Built Environment.

Our Community

York College University Centre is inclusive of everyone and welcomes students from a range of diverse backgrounds, and at different stages in their lives and careers.

We welcome continuers (providing a natural transition for our Level 3 students at College, in a familiar institution), mature students (those who want to retrain, progress, upskill or follow their passion) and those who may live further afield and want to be able to study in an environment with a condensed timetable and great travel options.

Whatever your individual circumstances, we aim to provide a welcome and engaging community for you to enjoy and help develop your educational ambitions and future career goals.

"I studied Level 2 and 3 Beauty Therapy at York College so it was a natural progression for me to study the Level 4 Diploma in Salon Management & Advanced Beauty Therapy Aesthetics at the University Centre. It's a fantastic place to learn and the facilities are brilliant. I absolutely loved it."

Alison, VTCT Level 4 Diploma in Salon Management & Advanced Beauty Therapy Aesthetics.

Work-Related Learning Opportunities

Work-related learning is a key part of all our higher education courses. Our academic staff work hard to build strong links with practitioners to ensure that your knowledge and technical abilities match industry requirements.
Most of our staff themselves are industry experienced and will be able to provide you with invaluable advice and guidance.

With a range of real-world assignments, live projects, work experience and guest lecturer experiences, studying at York College University Centre ensures you're equipped with the skills and knowledge required for future employment.

"Studying my PGCE at College allowed me to work alongside studying, and I had the opportunity to attend a teaching conference in Huddersfield, which was really useful as it meant I got to meet others from around the country who were doing a PGCE, meaning we could share tips, trick and best practice."

Dale, PGCE.

Cheaper Tuition Fees

Our course fees are £7,200 per year for a full-time course, whereas the average university fees in the UK are around £9,250 per year, according to Save the Student. Studying at York College University Centre is a more affordable way to progress your education journey.

"I've always enjoyed computing and wanted to improve my skills and expand my cybersecurity knowledge, so York College University Centre was the perfect choice. Studying close to home at my local university centre allowed me to save money and was much more convenient. The facilities were amazing, as good as larger universities, and I had great relationships with my tutors."
