York College celebrates inspirational staff members at annual Brilliance Awards

Staff members of York College & University Centre enjoyed a evening of celebrations at The Radisson Hotel in York for the Brilliance Awards, in recognition of their achievements and contribution to the College and wider community.

Now in its second year following a successful inaugural event last year, the York College Brilliance Awards gave opportunity for staff members, students and business partners to nominate colleagues for their hard work and dedication across the academic year. The nominations were then reviewed by the Strategic Leadership Team before the finalists were selected and invited to the celebration event.

The 10 categories were:

Student and Apprentice Success Award, Apprenticeship Champion Award, Digital Innovator Award, Alumni Champion Award, Community Partnership Award, Change Maker Award, Inspirational Leader Award, Sustainability Champion Award, Unsung Hero Award and Brilliant Educator Award.

Opening the event, Principal and Chief Executive Ken Merry shared:

“This evening is designed to celebrate the fantastic work our staff do day in, day out. We are fortunate to have so many wonderful staff working for York College and we celebrate those who have been nominated for an award by their peers, by our students and apprentices, and by our employer partners.

“It was really heart-warming to read through the nominations that people had taken the time to put forward. There is always something special about being nominated for an award, but even more so when you know that it has been from someone who you have made a difference to.”

The finalists and their guests enjoyed a joyous evening celebrating their achievements with a gala dinner and disco, whilst hearing their colleagues share the reasons for their nominations.

Congratulations, to all the finalists, award winners and to everyone who was nominated for a Brilliance Award. You should be incredibly proud of the difference you make to your students, apprentices, colleagues and community.
