Summer Sounds return to Rowntree Park as York College students put on live show

MUSIC students at York College will stage their annual live show again in July following a two-year absence during the Covid lockdown.

Summer Sounds 2022 will see students from a range of the College’s Performance & Production courses, stage a live showcase of bands and musicians in York’s Rowntree Park on Saturday July 2.

Music student Travis Kyle, 19, also singer and guitarist with the band Youvee, will be performing at Summer Sounds.

He said: “I’m coming to the end of my course at York College so this will be the first and last time I’ll be doing Summer Sounds. But it’s great for us as a band because it’s the first time we will have done an open-air festival.

“We’re all really excited to be performing.”

Performance & Production tutor, Chris Walsh said: “It’s great to be back after two years. Everybody has been waiting for this moment.

“The event involves our students from across Vocational and A level courses. There’s a lot of effort goes into this because it serves as an end-of-year celebration.

“It means a lot to them. The students are involved in every aspect including stage management and the sound checks.”
