York College dancers perform at MOVE IT

York College & University Centre dance students perform, mainstage, at world’s biggest dance event.

Huge congratulations to our Level 3 Dance & Musical Theatre students, who recently attended MOVE IT, the world’s biggest dance event. The event took place in London this March and saw the dancers take to the main stage and perform their piece ‘Beetle Bug Ball’, based upon the film Thumbelina.

MOVE IT celebrates all forms of dance and performing arts and gave our students the opportunity to rehearse and perfect their performance, which was then watched and supported by the other colleges in attendance.

The day of the event, after weeks of practising, the dancers felt prepared for their moment. They spent time backstage rehearsing and ensuring their hair, make-up and costumes were performance-ready. They could then sit back and enjoy the excitement in the atmosphere.

Finally, it was our dancers turn to perform. On taking to the stage, the group of 20 girls, like a sea of purple sequins, performed a Fosse-inspired Jazz piece based on ‘The Beetle Bug Ball’ from Disney’s Thumbelina. Ending with a roaring applause, the girls had done themselves, and their college proud.

Dance and Musical Theatre student, and one of the performers, Edie Castle said:

“MOVE IT was one of the best days! I’m so grateful that I got the chance to perform on the main stage. It was such a valuable experience to also be able to watch other dance colleges. I even got to watch performances from where I am studying next year. It was a great experience and one I will never forget. Thank you so much to our tutor, Emma!”
