GCSE Results in Success for 2020

Adapting to a new way of learning, these students have shown exceptional determination to achieve their ambitions having re-taken their GCSE Maths and English exams, as well as a smaller number of students who have studied GCSE Biology.

The enforced lockdown in March put a stop to all face to face teaching and paved the way for a new method of learning remotely, with students accessing online teaching sessions and learning materials, provided and delivered to the highest of standards by their tutors.

Amongst those in high spirits and excited to embark on the next chapter of their educational journey/careers are:

Ella Louise Daniels, who achieved GCSE English grade 5 and GCSE Maths grade 7.

“I’m really pleased with my results. I studied these GCSEs alongside Level 2 Hair and Media Make-up Diploma, but I found this ok as my timetable worked really well, and I felt I picked things up quite quickly. Working in lockdown was different, but my tutors contacted me regularly to check everything was ok. I’ve really enjoyed my time at College, it’s got a great atmosphere and I’ve made lots of new friends.”

Ella is going on to study Theatrical, Special Effects and Hair and Media Make-up Level 3 and would love to have a career working as a make-up artist on film sets.

Ruby May Hollins who was awarded GCSE English grade 7.

“I’m really pleased with my English GCSE grade. The support from York College has been really amazing. Having been home schooled, coming to College was nerve-wracking especially because I have no experience of exams. However, all my tutors have been so approachable and caring, and made the transition really easy. My English lessons have been great and my tutor sent me creative writing things to do, to keep me motivated during lockdown because she knows how much I enjoy this.”

Ruby is progressing onto the second year of her Art and Design Extended Diploma course at York College. Following this she hopes to study a BA (Hons) in Illustration and then an MA in Art Therapy to qualify as an Art Therapist.

And, Mei Chen who achieved GCSE Maths grade 7.

“I’ve been working toward my Maths GCSE alongside studying a Vocational ESOL course. I’ve found this quite hard, particularly during lockdown, but I’ve had great support from my tutors, which has really helped.”

Mei is planning to study A Level Maths, alongside other subjects, and would like to go to university and study Accountancy.
