Discover your future at York College: Come along to our Open Event

Choosing what to do after school, or deciding on the next step in your education, is a big decision. With so many courses, career pathways and opportunities available, it can sometimes feel difficult to know where to begin.

That’s why visiting York College could be one of the most valuable steps you take when planning your future.

Our first Open Event of the academic year is on Tuesday 6th October 2026 and runs from 5.30pm – 8pm.

We’re opening our doors and inviting prospective students to come along to our Open Event. Whether you already have a clear idea of what you want to study or you’re still exploring your options, this is your chance to experience York College for yourself, ask questions and start imagining what your future could look like.

There’s only so much you can discover from a website or prospectus. An Open Event gives you the opportunity to walk around our campus, see the learning environment first-hand and get a real feel for what it’s like to study here.

You’ll be able to tour our facilities, from classrooms and specialist workshops to social spaces, and see the places where you could spend the next stage of your education.

Ahead of your visit, you could even take a look at our virtual tour so you can start to familiarise yourself with what’s on offer on campus.

It’s also a great opportunity to think beyond the courses themselves. College life is about learning, but it’s also about meeting new people, building confidence, discovering interests and making the most of social opportunities. Our Student Experience Team will be on hand to talk with you about all our enrichment activities as well as to introduce you to our Student Union.

Meet the people who make College life special

One of the best reasons to attend an Open Event is the chance to speak directly to the people who know York College best.

You can meet our knowledgeable tutors, ask questions about the subjects you’re interested in and find out what studying those courses is really like. You’ll also have the opportunity to hear from current students and get a first-hand perspective on College life from our Student Ambassadors.

Not sure which course is right for you?

That’s absolutely fine, and you’re not alone!

You don’t need to arrive with everything figured out. Our Open Event is designed to help you explore your options, whether you’re considering A Levels, a Vocational or T Level course, an Apprenticeship or another pathway.

With curriculum areas ranging from Art & Design, Engineering, Maths and Science to Digital & Media, Sport, Health & Social Care, Construction, Business and many more, there are plenty of possibilities to explore.

Get answers to the questions that matter

When you’re choosing where to study, it’s natural to have questions.

We want to help you explore how the course you choose can help with your career goals and so our dedicated Careers Team will also be available to guide you.

We can share with you what support is available if you need it. You may need financial support and our Funding Team can speak with you about the range of support we can offer.

You can also find out about well-being, learning support, travel and transport and more! Helping you understand not just what you’ll study, but the wider support available throughout your time at College is really important to us.

For parents and carers, it’s also a valuable opportunity to ask questions and get a better understanding of the experience your young person could have here at York College.

In summary, our Open Event is your opportunity to get answers directly from our friendly support teams.

Your time at College should be about more than just lessons.

At York College, there are opportunities to get involved in events, clubs and societies, meet people with similar interests and try something new. Visiting an Open Event gives you the chance to discover more about the student experience and consider how you could make the most of your time here.

And, if you’re not ready to apply just yet, that’s completely fine too. The most important thing is that you leave with a clearer understanding of your options and what your next steps could be.
