Sam Miller

Did you know that we offer degree and higher-level qualifications?

Meet Sam who studied A Levels at York College. After completing his A Levels, he stayed on with us to study a Higher National Certificate (HNC) in Creative Media Production - Film.

Here’s what he had to say on his experience of York College University Centre…

“I studied the HNC Creative Media Production – Film at York College University Centre as I wanted to get some more professional practice at filmmaking before I headed off to university. This course allowed me to play around with more advanced equipment and experiment with filmmaking in a collaborative environment.

This course has provided me a lot of opportunities to develop my filmmaking ability whilst working with others on the course in an environment which mirrors an actual film set. We have worked on documentaries and fiction films and I have even had the opportunity to work on a set that used multiple cameras and a vision mixer to capture the footage from several different angles and locations at once.

I studied A Levels at York College so had a pretty good understanding of the environment. My Film Studies tutor told me about the HNC course and it seemed a perfect way to learn more skills in a place I was familiar with, with tutors who I knew and who knew me.

The year has been great for several different reasons. Firstly, it has given me an opportunity to learn about the industry and the equipment used within it. I have been able to work on projects of my creation and I have had a lot of fun doing so along the way. All other tutors on the course are excellent and are really fun to work with.

I received an unconditional offer from the University for the Creative Arts and will be studying a BA in Film Production. Studying the HNC at York College University Centre is allowing me to progress to this degree with a greater understanding of more complex filmmaking, which I will be able to use not just throughout my degree but through the rest of my potential career in the film industry.”
