Barratts and York College Aprentices

Barratt Developments Trade Apprentice triumph!

Celebrations at York College & University Centre as our first cohort of Barratt Developments PLC Trade Apprentices pass their end point assessments.

This month, six Barratt Developments PLC Trade Apprentices from Yorkshire East passed their End Point Assessment achieving their Intermediate Apprenticeship Level 2 qualifications. Five of the six apprentices achieved distinction grade certifying their skills as fully qualified bricklayers or site carpenters.

Congratulations to Jarrad Benson, David Fitzgerald, Jake Lilly, Abigail Stevens, Ashton Webb and Riley Wilson. Pictured are the six apprentices with Yorkshire East's Apprentice Champion Simon Reynolds presenting them with their certificates.

These apprentices were in our first cohort at York College & University Centre and over the past 18 months, have attended the residential programme, earning their qualification six months faster than in a conventional programme.

The Trade Apprentices attended 10 sets of one-week blocks of training at York College & University Centre and worked on-site across Yorkshire East developments to perfect their skills and knowledge required to work on real-world projects.

Moving forward, both Jarrad and David have secured bricklaying jobs with the local division, while Jake, Abigail, Ashton and Riley are furthering their education through our Advanced Apprenticeship for another 12 months to gain their Level 3 carpentry qualification.

Ashley Stokes, Head of Construction at York College & University Centre said:

“We are very proud of the students and staff and their success on the apprenticeship programme. We have a very strong partnership with Barratts which has continued to develop over the past few years.

“This close working relationship has allowed us to implement a successful accelerated apprenticeship programme. We wish the students every success with their next level of study.”

Phil Evans, Grants & Funding Manager at Barratt Developments PLC said:
