Vehicle Inspection IMI Diploma Level 2
This course provides learners with the opportunity to study both the theory and practical aspects of a range of routine vehicle inspection, fitting and maintenance procedures.
Entry requirements
GCSE grade 4 in either Maths OR English OR IMI Level 1 Diploma in Automotive Maintenance.
What will I study?
Units include:
- Routine light vehicle maintenance, including engine systems.
- Inspecting, repairing and replacing light vehicle: standard and high performance tyres.
- Carrying out light vehicle four wheel alignment.
- Inspecting and replacing light vehicle: exhaust components, suspension dampers & springs, vehicle batteries and braking systems & components.
You will also gain a broad knowledge and understanding of health and safety in the workplace, agreeing customer vehicle needs and other skills associated with working in a garage.
Additional costs
You will be required to buy your own personal protective equipment (PPE) and a toolbox that will allow you to carry out most of the tasks throughout your course, all of which can be bought through the College online shop.
Method of delivery
You will typically be in College three days per week with time spent in the workshop undertaking practical activities and in the classroom studying theory work.
How will I be assessed?
You will be assessed through practical assignments and online, multi-choice exams. Your progress is shown through your 'ePortfolio' and will help you monitor your progress through the year.
Good course combinations
This is a full-time course. It is not possible to combine this course with other Vocational, T Level, Apprenticeship or A Level programmes.
Your next steps
Upon completing this course, you can progress to higher levels of learning, such as the Light Vehicle Maintenance & Repair (VRQ) IMI Diploma Level 3. Additionally, students can progress towards other appropriate destinations, such as apprenticeships and employment in the automotive industry.
