Automotive Maintenance IMI Diploma Level 1
This course is designed to engage and motivate students who are interested in learning about the maintenance of motor vehicles and the various roles that are available in the retail motor industry.
Entry requirements
A minimum of 2 GCSE subjects at grade 2 in English and Maths.
What will I study?
You will learn about health and safety in the workplace, tools and equipment for vehicle maintenance, and various vehicle systems including engines, steering and suspension, braking systems, tyres, transmission, and electrical circuits. The course focuses on practical activities to prepare you for further studies or employment in the automotive industry.
You will be required to buy your own personal protective equipment (PPE) and a toolbox that will allow you to carry out most of the tasks throughout your course. All of which can be bought through the College online shop.
Method of delivery
You will typically be in College three days per week with time spent in the workshop undertaking practical activities and in the classroom studying theory work.
How will I be assessed?
You will be assessed through practical assignments and online, multi-choice exams. Your progress is shown through your 'ePortfolio' and will help you monitor your progress through the year.
Good course combinations
Alongside your Motor Vehicle studies, you will also work towards achieving your GCSEs in Maths and English.
This is a full-time course. It is not possible to combine this course with other Vocational, T Level, Apprenticeship or A Level programmes.
Your next steps
Upon completing this course, you can progress to higher levels of learning, such as the IMI Level 2 Technical Occupational Entry in Automotive Care (Diploma). Additionally, you can progress towards other appropriate destinations, such as apprenticeships and employment in the automotive industry.
