This qualification is designed for students who want to go on to higher level studies or into a relevant uniformed protective services role.

Entry requirements

A minimum of 5 GCSE subjects at grade 4 or above including English and Maths.

What will I study?

Course content covers areas such as the following:

  • Citizenship and Diversity
  • Behaviour and Discipline in Uniformed Protective Services (E)
  • Physical Preparation, Health and Wellbeing
  • Teamwork, Leadership and Communication

E = externally set examined unit

The course includes strong work-related opportunities with the Army, Navy, RAF, Fire Service, Ambulance, Police and Prison Service.


Additional costs
All students are expected to purchase the course uniform. To support outdoor education trips and visits there will be a course contribution of approximately £80.00. For further information please speak to our tutors at open events and guidance discussions.

Method of delivery

Most sessions are theory sessions, but very applied. You will have a fitness session each week. This course also involves lots of work-related activity, including guest speakers and sessions delivered by the Army, Navy, RAF, Police and the Fire and Rescue Service.

How will I be assessed?

Each year the course consists of one externally assessed unit. The other units are internally assessed and include assignments, practical assessments, presentations, and case studies.

Good course combinations

This is a full-time course. It is not possible to combine this course with other Vocational, T Level, Apprenticeship or A Level programmes.

Your next steps

This course gives a good understanding of the service, skills and knowledge to make a strong application to the Uniformed Services. Student progression routes include the Armed Forces, Civil Service, Police Community Support Officer (PCSO), Control Support Staff and the Police Constable Degree Apprenticeship (PCDA) an application for which is made directly through the Police Force.

Students also progress on to degree courses such as criminology, policing, disaster management, law and youth & social studies.
