The purpose of the qualification is to develops learner’s knowledge and understanding required to work with individuals with learning disabilities or difficulties. Principles of safeguarding are included, together with positive risk taking and awareness of the autistic spectrum.

Through this course you will build a comprehensive understanding of the issues surrounding different types of learning disabilities and how they affect individuals and those around them in their everyday lives.

You will gain insight in to the importance of adopting a person-centred approach to individuals and explore the ways in which you can recognise and consider the causes, nature and characteristics of learning disabilities.

The qualification is suitable for those working or intending to work in healthcare and social care, but may be of interest to those working in education or housing support roles.

Entry requirements

There are no specific entry requirements, however, learners should have a minimum of Level 1 in literacy and numeracy or equivalent.

  • Introductory Awareness of Autistic Spectrum Conditions
  • Principles of Positive Risk-taking for Individuals with Disabilities
  • Principles of Supporting Individuals with a Learning Disability to Access Healthcare
  • Safeguarding and Protection in Care Settings
  • Understand the Context of Supporting Individuals with Learning Disabilities

Additional information

All materials are provided for you to complete the course. However, you will need access to a PC/laptop and suitable Wi-Fi to access teaching and learning.

*Most students over the age of 19 will be able to study these courses for free, however, please contact us if you’re aged 19-23 and do not yet have a full Level 2 qualification (five GCSEs grade 9-4/A*-C, NVQ Level 2 or higher) as additional eligibility criteria may apply.
