City & Guilds Level 3 Award in the Requirements for Electrical Installations

This course covers the requirements of BS 7671 – the IET Wiring Regulations, helping you understand the rules and standards that apply to electrical installations. You’ll learn how to interpret the regulations and apply them to real-world electrical installation situations.

Entry requirements
None, but this qualification is primarily aimed at practising electricians with relevant experience and other allied professionals e.g. surveyors, consultants and other trades needing to update and enhance their understanding of IET Wiring Regulations. It is also suitable for anyone wishing to demonstrate an understanding of the IET 18th Edition Wiring Regulations.
Course units
You’ll cover topics including:
- Electrical safety and protection against electric shock
- Selecting and installing electrical equipment
- Cable selection, including current-carrying capacity and voltage drop
- Earthing and bonding
- Inspection and testing requirements
- Requirements for special locations, such as bathrooms
- Energy efficiency and electrical energy storage
- How to use the wiring regulations to check that an installation meets the required standards
Assessments
You will be assessed via a two hour online exam.
