Entry Requirements
Good numeracy skills are required and a keen interest in working with numbers. You don’t need any previous finance experience to enrol. You should be aged over 19 before the start of your course.

This course is aimed for people at work, self-employed or individuals wanting to enter the accounting profession. This course is a great taster for those who have no accounts experience and those curious about what higher-level courses might involve.

This qualification delivers the skills and essential knowledge to manage books effectively. 

The aim of the qualification is to develop the introductory book-keeping practices and processes to enable candidates to adjust ledger accounts to take account of activities at the trial balance date which affect the production of an accurate trading, profit and loss account and balance sheet.

If you have a criminal record or have been made bankrupt, professional organisations may not accept you as members. Please contact the applicable professional body membership team directly for more advice if this is relevant to you.

  • Understand the role of the bookkeeper
  • Understand financial transactions
  • Process customer and supplier transactions
  • Process receipts and payments
  • Understand the benefits and risks of using accounting software to complete bookkeeping tasks

Assessments

Students will be required to complete AAt computer-based exams.

Course progression

This qualification provides a great foundation to accounting careers, as well as providing educational and training progress on to the AAT Level 2 Certificate in Accounting.

Students have access to a fantastic range of College-wide facilities such as the Learning & Research Centre, study hubs, computer areas with accompanying multi-function printers and helpdesk advice.

Additional costs

All materials are provided for you to complete the course. However, some courses may require additional study from home, you may need access to a PC/laptop and suitable Wi-Fi to access teaching and learning. You will be made aware of any additional study time at the time of enrolment.

Study methods

On campus delivery means you benefit from regular College classes, an experienced college tutor will discuss and reinforce what you have learnt and will be on hand to provide guidance on progress and assessment. Discussion and debate with classmates will help you apply theories to situations you face in the workplace.
