Sprout pencils May 11

Sharpen up your sustainability game with our Sprout pencils

At York College University Centre, we believe everybody can sharpen up their game to help create a more sustainable future for our planet.

So, with that in mind, we’re giving away Sprout pencils to all our 2023/24 Higher Education applicants.

The pencils, made by Sprout World, feature a seed capsule at the end that can be planted once they have served their traditional purpose.

Depending on which seeds applicants have been issued with – we are distributing five different kinds with the pencils – they will then either grow into sage, basil, daisies, forget-me-nots or carnations.

The process is really simple – the used pencil needs to be planted in a pot with a saucer underneath at a 30-degree angle with only the seed capsule covered in good moist potting soil.

It should be kept at a room temperature of 20C/68F with natural light ideal, although direct sunlight needs to be avoided.

Within one to four weeks, the plant should then sprout.

We’re hoping that everybody will join in this great initiative and please share any images of your plants by tagging us on any social media posts.

We can’t wait to see them!
