Maries apprenticeship blog 2023

Have you considered an apprenticeship as one of your York College course preferences?

Apprenticeships consist of a real job and training, providing you with the opportunity to gain industry knowledge and skills on the job, whilst working towards a nationally-recognised qualification. What's not to like?

As an apprentice, you’ll be employed within a workplace, with six hours per week set aside and dedicated to training - this will be both in your workplace and here at York College. Earning a wage whilst you learn is a huge benefit of an apprenticeship and can help you kick-start your career, providing you with valuable on-the-job skills unique to apprenticeship courses.

As an apprentice you are employed, earn a salary and experience the workplace as a fully-fledged employee, including paid holiday. You’ll learn at your own pace with the full support of your employer and a mentor in the workplace.

With great future earning potential, apprenticeships offer fantastic opportunities for real career development and are now offered up to degree level, so you can really climb the career ladder.

When trying to find a suitable employer for your apprenticeship, you can even contact employers directly and enquire if they would be interested in taking you on. It is important that the company you secure your employment with is supportive of your apprenticeship, allowing you to study, and encouraging you to use the skills you are learning.

Alternatively, there are various recruitment websites which list apprenticeship vacancies. By following the link below you can filter your search for an apprenticeship by job title, location and distance. If you find a suitable vacancy, you can also apply directly through this site (do be aware that the training part of these apprenticeships may not be at York College): https://www.findapprenticeship.service.gov.uk/apprenticeshipsearch
