Applicants must have successfully completed a Level 4 Beauty Therapy Advanced Aesthetics qualification or equivalent. Students should already be practising within the aesthetics or beauty therapy industry and be confident in delivering advanced treatments safely and professionally.

The VTCT Level 5 Certificate in Non-surgical Aesthetic Procedures for Skin Rejuvenation is an advanced qualification designed for experienced practitioners who wish to develop high-level skills and knowledge within the aesthetics industry. This course builds on existing Level 4 competencies and focuses on advanced skin rejuvenation techniques, client assessment, treatment planning, and professional practice.

The qualification is ideal for practitioners looking to enhance their clinical expertise, expand their treatment portfolio, and progress towards higher-level aesthetics qualifications

Dates & course durations

The course is delivered through blended learning, combining online theoretical study with three intensive blocks of on-site practical training.

Monday 26th October – induction followed by online learning, with weekly check ins on Teams.

Block 1 Monday 11th January - Friday 15th January- basic life support and chemical peels

Between blocks 1-2 will be case studies which students will practice at home

Block 2  Monday 15th March – Friday 19th March - micro needling and mesotherapy

Block between 2-3 will be case studies which students will practice at home

Block 3  Monday 7th June – Friday 11th June - assessment methods

Students will be given guidance on dress code at induction as it is an expectation that students follow industry practices in relation to appropriate salon/clinic wear.

Entry requirements

Applicants must have successfully completed a Level 4 Beauty Therapy Advanced Aesthetics qualification or equivalent.

Students should already be practising within the aesthetics or beauty therapy industry and be confident in delivering advanced treatments safely and professionally.

Course units

The VTCT Level 5 Certificate comprises units that focus on advanced non-surgical aesthetic practice.

Learners must achieve all mandatory units which include:

• Principles of non-surgical aesthetic procedures
• Client assessment for non-surgical aesthetic procedures
• Advanced skin science for non-surgical aesthetic procedures
• Complication management and emergency plan implementation for nonsurgical aesthetic procedures
• Provide advanced chemical peels for skin rejuvenation
• Provide advanced skin needling procedures for skin rejuvenation
• Provide needle mesotherapy procedures for skin rejuvenation and hair
restoration
• Provide light emitting diode (LED) phototherapy for skin rejuvenation

Additionally, the qualification emphasises the importance of managing complications and implementing emergency plans, ensuring safe and effective practice. This certificate is designed to prepare learners for further progression to Level 7 injectable procedures.

Basic life support and anaphylactic management will be covered within this course.

Assessment

Assessment for the VTCT (ITEC) Level 5 Certificate in Non-surgical Aesthetic Procedures for Skin Rejuvenation is achieved through a combination of internal and external assessment methods, including:

• Practical observations
• Written assignments and short-answer responses
• Online and externally set examinations
• Case studies and portfolio evidence

Assessments are designed to ensure learners meet industry and awarding body standards, with a strong emphasis on client safety and professional competence.

Practical Training Sessions: Hands-on learning delivered in professional salons and workshops, where students practise techniques under the expert guidance and supervision.

Classroom-Based Theory: In-depth classroom sessions covering consultation techniques, anatomy and physiology, health and safety, and aftercare procedures.

Client Case Studies: Real client consultations and treatment planning to build confidence and competence in providing tailored services.

Independent Study: Assignments and research tasks completed outside of class to reinforce theoretical understanding.

Assessment: Continuous assessment through practical observations, written assignments, and portfolio development.

This structured, hands-on approach prepares students to deliver safe, effective, and personalised treatments in real-world settings.

Facilities

York College offers outstanding facilities designed to support and inspire students in the Hair, Beauty, and Media Make-up industries.
The Hair & Beauty department includes two large, fully equipped hairdressing salons and four professional-standard beauty therapy salons, providing realistic commercial environments for students to refine their skills. Due to the success of higher-level Beauty Therapy qualifications, an additional advanced clinic will be introduced in September 2026.

A welcoming commercial salon reception area enhances the professional experience, while three dedicated media make-up workshops provide creative spaces equipped with industry-standard tools and products.

Beyond the department, students benefit from the wider College’s excellent facilities, including the modern Learning & Research Centre, quiet study hubs, well-equipped IT areas, multi-function printers, and expert on-site support services—creating an ideal environment for both academic and practical success.
