Jazz Dancing

Entry requirements
There are no formal entry requirements for this course, although enthusiasm, passion and commitment are essential.
You will need appropriate clothing and footwear, and please bring a water bottle.
Course units
This course is perfect for anyone wanting a pathway into dance. Exploring the core elements of jazz technique, kicks, leaps, turns and co-ordination. Build confidence within yourself and build your dance community. Improve fitness levels, flexibility, resilience and feeling good while doing it!
Class intensity will build as the weeks progress and the group is established. The tutor will tailor training to all needs and abilities creating an inclusive space for all to access. No prior experience is needed, this class is for people new to dance and those who are wanting to update their current dance training schedule.
Students will work from the side of the room and in the centre, within technique targeting exercises and drills. Students will also learn choreography phrases and dances in a wide range of jazz styles, musical theatre, lyrical, Fosse and more.
Assessments
You'll receive tutor feedback throughout the course and will receive a York College Certificate upon completion.

Course progression
As the course progresses, you'll gain the confidence in your dance abilities and have great fun!
You could then progress to another York College Performance & Production course.
Dates & course durations

Thursdays, 6.00pm-8.00pm.
Study methods
Onsite, face-to-face delivery. Students will learn in a friendly and professional dance studio environment with all appropriate health and safety provision.
Lessons will start with a gentle warm up, cardio based with stretching. All sessions with be highly practical and interactive. Lessons will close with an effective cool down and breath work.
Facilities
You will be taught in a dance studio with all materials provided. As well as our state of the art dance studio, students have access to a fantastic range of College-wide facilities such as the Learning & Research Centre, study hubs, computer areas with accompanying multi-function printers and helpdesk advice.
