The course is ideal if you have already achieved a Level 1 qualification, have some prior experience working with hair or have previously achieved Maths and/or English at GCSE grade 4.

Throughout the course, you’ll gain hands-on experience in cutting, colouring, perming, and styling techniques. You’ll also learn essential skills in client consultation, hair and scalp analysis, and health and safety practices. Training in our professional salon environment will allow you to work with real clients, building your confidence and customer service abilities.

Perfect for those aiming to become qualified junior stylists or progress to Level 3, this course will give you the practical skills and industry knowledge to thrive in the dynamic world of hairdressing.

Method of delivery

This course is predominantly a practical-based course. This means that the majority of your training will be delivered in one of the College salons or workshops. You’ll be expected to complete theoretical knowledge through homework activities and directed learning, although some theory work will also be embedded into practical sessions. Tests and assignments will also be used to check and test your knowledge and understanding.

A variety of enrichment activities will be scheduled throughout the year to help you prepare for progression and employment. You will also take part in competition work to demonstrate working under pressure and striving for high standards.

How will I be assessed?

Assessment consists of practical observations on paying clients, demonstrating professional skills and effective client care and communication. Students are often required to find some of their own models for assessment.

Oral and written questioning, assignments, projects and tests online are used to test knowledge and understanding.

Assessment will be graded Pass, Merit or Distinction.

Good course combinations

This is a full-time course. It is not possible to combine this course with other Vocational, T Level, Apprenticeship or A Level programmes.

Your next steps

You could progress straight into salon employment, continue your education and training by completing the Advanced Hairdressing Diploma VRQ Level 3 for one year, or you could follow an apprenticeship route and study the Advanced & Creative Hair Professional Apprenticeship Level 3.
