Engineering Maintenance Technician Apprenticeship Level 3 (Dual Discipline: Electrical and Mechanical Maintenance Technician Pathway)
This apprenticeship will give you the knowledge and skills to work as an engineering maintenance technician in a range of industries that use plant - machinery, apparatus and fixtures - and equipment. Typical industries include energy, leisure entertainment, manufacturing, processing, and utilities companies. Engineering maintenance technicians maintain plant and equipment to optimise operation. They conduct planned and preventative maintenance to prevent issues occurring and reactive maintenance when problems occur (for example, responding to breakdowns).
Entry requirements
You must be employed in a relevant role for a minimum of 30 hours per week. As a minimum, you should have 5 GCSEs at grade 4 or above including English, Maths (at a grade 5 on the higher paper) and Science or a technical subject.
What will I study?
This apprenticeship will give you the knowledge, skills and behaviours required to work as an Engineering Maintenance Technician. You will study core engineering units and specifically develop dual skills as an Electrical and Mechanical Maintenance Technician.
You will study a range of units to support your knowledge development including Health & Safety, Engineering Maths, Mechanical Principles, Electrical/Electronic Principles, Engineering Maintenance, Engineering Materials, Business Operations & Improvement Techniques etc. and you will develop a range of skills including mechanical assemblies, engineering maintenance, hand fitting, fluid power etc.
Method of Delivery
You will attend York College on a day release basis: Year 1 & 2 are 2 college days per week, Year 3 is 1 college day per week and Year 4 is 1 college day per half term.
How will I be assessed?
You will be assessed regularly throughout the duration of your apprenticeship. However successful achievement of the End-Point Assessment (EPA) will lead to final certification of the apprenticeship. The EPA assessment, with an independent assessor, compromises of a number of tasks, these are:
An observation with questions in your place of work, lasting a minimum of 5 hours.
An interview underpinned with a portfolio of evidence; this will be an interview with an independent assessor lasting a minimum of 90 minutes which is about your occupation and tasks you carry out. You will provide a portfolio of evidence to support the interview process.
A multiple-choice test. This is an online test of 50 questions, with 75 minutes to complete.

There are no specific College programme related costs, however you will be advised of any additional costs during your application and enrolment process.

It is not possible to combine this course with other Vocational, T Level or A Level programmes.
