Digital Music Production
This course will cover an introduction to digital production, composing using VST instruments, recording live music using DAW, editing midi/audio in a DAW, simple synthesis and live electronic music performance.
Entry requirements
There are no entry requirements for this course, but students should have passion for the subject.
Course units
The course will cover:
1.Introduction to Digital Production – overview of software available etc.
2. Composing Using VST Instruments – generic, any software.
3. Recording Live Instruments using a DAW – generic, any software.
4. Editing Midi/Audio in a DAW – generic, any software.
5. Simple Synthesis – learning the basics of a synthesiser.
6. Live Electronic Music Performance – how to perform live with electronic instruments, and how to incorporate electronic instruments into a full band.
Assessments
No formal assessments, but there will be tutor feedback throughout and a York College Certificate on completion.
Course fees
This course is free for those who live within the York and North Yorkshire Combined Authority, earn less than £35k a year, and have not have studied any previous tailored learning courses with us. Students can only do one tailored learning course regardless of the discipline.

Course progression
As the course progresses, you'll gain the confidence to work comfortably with the equipment, mastering the techniques of digital music production.

14th April 2026-19th May 2026, Tuesdays, 6.00pm-8.30pm.
Study methods
Lessons will start with an introduction/familiarity to the equipment/facilities followed by an agenda for the lesson. The lesson will be wrapped up with a recap of what was taught and what the plan is the for next lesson.
Facilities
You will be taught in music studios and classrooms with all materials provided.
