Entry Requirements
There are no formal entry requirements for this qualification and students can be complete beginners, however, we do also welcome people with a little experience of speaking Spanish.

This course is suitable for people who have no previous knowledge of Spanish but would like to speak and understand a little when they are on holiday or travelling for work.

Students will acquire basic communication skills in Spanish, for use in a variety of familiar useful situations such as when you’re on holiday or travelling for work.

Entry requirements

There are no formal entry requirements for this qualification and students can be complete beginners, however, we do also welcome people with a little experience of speaking Spanish.

Course units

The course has various useful and helpful topics which may include:

  • Introducing yourself and talking about family
  • Talking about where you're from
  • What you do for a living
  • Ordering food and drink in a bar
  • Handling money and general shopping
  • Understanding what there is in town and simple directions

Assessments

There are no formal assessments required as part of this beginner’s course, students will be awarded with a York College certificate upon completion.

Courses costing more than £100 can usually be paid for in instalments. Please contact the College for details.

Course progression

Students who successfully complete this course may progress to Continuers Spanish in January 2024 if there is sufficient demand.

Study methods

This is a classroom-based course and will be taught with a focus on listening, understanding and speaking with an introduction to reading and writing.

Facilities

Students have access to a fantastic range of College-wide facilities such as the Learning & Research Centre, study hubs, computer areas with accompanying multi-function printers and helpdesk advice.

Additional costs

All materials are provided for you to complete the course. However, some courses may require additional study from home, you may need access to a PC/laptop and suitable Wi-Fi to access teaching and learning. You will be made aware of any additional study time at the time of enrolment.

You will be equipped with the skills and knowledge in basic Spanish to help you progress and develop in a number of job opportunities to suit your personal needs and interests.
