Your Wellbeing

Look after you. Your health and wellbeing is our number one priority. We offer termly health and wellbeing events. If you are experiencing any problems, feeling under pressure or finding it hard to cope, we have a free and confidential counselling service that you can access through our Mental Health and Wellbeing Service. We also have a team of Mental Health First Aiders on-hand throughout the working day.

Our Careers Service is available to prospective and current students, parents/carers and employers.

York College careers service is here to enable all students to plan for their future, make informed decisions and learn what's available in the world of education, employment and training. Our service is free, confidential and supports your individual journey.

We provide a high quality and impartial guidance service and you can book a 1 to 1 appointment via our student portal at any time of the academic year. We support you in job applications as well as your UCAS applications, should you be progressing to university.

We work closely with your course teams to devise events and workshops across the year that will help you to make informed choices with regards to your progression. Our service is empowering, meaningful and inspiring. We encourage all our students to reach their full potential and support you in securing successful futures.

From quick questions that we can respond to via email to one-to-one advice to discuss your longer-term career goals, we are here to support you in any way we can. Our service is free, confidential and supports your individual journey.

Our Progress Coaches are also here to help you. At College you will have weekly group tutorials, and a regular schedule of one-to-one meetings with a dedicated Progress Coach. Your Progress Coach acts as another point of contact, outside of your studies, that will help you overcome barriers, access our services and enjoy additional activities that will enhance your overall experience at the college

Your Learning Support

We offer support for students with learning difficulties and/or disabilities (SEN) including specialist staffing, equipment and resources and can make reasonable adjustments in discussion with the student, whether or not they have an Education Health Care Plan (EHCP).

Your Studies

The Learning & Research team based in The Learning Centre play a huge part in Your Experience at the college. The team is here to help the whole College community access a wide range of electronic and print based learning resources. We liaise with both students and staff to ensure we find relevant and up-to-date material to enhance your studies and ensure you are expanding your knowledge outside of the classroom. We also provide advice and guidance on research, study skills and referencing. We work closely with your Progress Coaches and the curriculum teams in ensuring you are accessing the right information for your course and personal progress.

Work Placements

The Work Placement Team assists students in sourcing high quality placements where this is a requirement for their course, including the new T Levels. Working with students from a wide range of curriculum areas, they facilitate both short term and long term placements, allowing students to enhance their employability skills and progression opportunities.

Carers

If you're someone who provides unpaid help or support for someone who is disabled, physically or mentally ill, frail, or struggling with addiction, you may be a carer. Let us know about your caring responsibilities so we can help support you so you.

Looked After Children and Adults

We want to ensure that everyone has the best chance to succeed, no matter their circumstances. We woking closely wih Virtual Heads, Social Workers, parents/carers and other support staff to ensure that 'looked after' students are as supported as can be.

Your Safety

We have a dedicated Safeguarding Lead in the College who is well-linked with your course teams and your Progress Coach to ensure that you are safe and that any issues preventing you from accessing your studies are dealt with in a confidential and timely manner.

You will also see two Student Engagement Officers visible within the College throughout the day. Also part of the Wellbeing Team; they are here to offer anther point of contact to you should you need any support or advice whilst in college. They are also present across break times and lunch times to help ensure the safety of our students.
