Sports Coaching Apprenticeship Level 4
This apprenticeship enables employers to support and develop their staff as they progress through the sport sector, it is aimed at providing employees with the ability to design and deliver high quality coaching programmes that engage, motivate, and evolve participants’ skills and performance.
You must be employed in a relevant role for a minimum of 30 hours per week and employed in a role that enables you to fulfil the criteria requirements of the End-Point Assessment.
What will I study?
Sports Coaches aim to provide meaningful and high-quality learning and development experiences. They support achievement and performance in local competitions, increase participation, raise education standards, enhance wellbeing, and drive social change.
This apprenticeship is designed to develop the employees use of extensive technical and tactical sports knowledge and skills to design and deliver coaching programmes that engage, motivate, and evolve participants’ skills and performance.
This standard aligns with the following professional recognition: The Chartered Institute for the Management of Sport and Physical Activity (CIMSPA) for Coach Membership.
Pathway options: Community Coach or School Sports Coach
How will I be assessed?
This Level 4 EPA consists of work-based project and presentation with questioning, practical observation with questioning (coaching session) and a professional discussion underpinned by a portfolio.
The standard is typically designed as an 18-month programme (including the EPA period) and is for apprentices who wish to gain the skills, knowledge and behavioural competences required to work in a community or school environment role.

Method of delivery
Apprentices will attend College on a day release basis, 1 day per week, with the rest of the time being spent in the workplace.
Time in College will include a range of classroom-based activities to support the development of your knowledge of transformational coaching techniques and strategies. Workforce structures, due-diligence, performance monitoring, session preparation techniques and methods to evaluate the impact of your coaching work will also be covered.

There are no specific College programme related costs, however, you will be advised of any additional costs during your application and enrolment process.
Your next steps
There are many core skills and pathway skills you will develop on this apprenticeship. You will have the ability to respond to national trends in the community or education, through the delivery of effective coaching pedagogies and processes in line with statutory guidelines.
You will be able to plan, prepare, deliver, and evaluate sessions that are targeted and accessible for participants individual needs and rights, advocating fairness, equality, and diversity in the coaching environment.
Successful completion of the apprenticeship provides practitioner membership with the Chartered Institute for the Management of Sport and Physical (CIMSPA). This will support your progression into a career related to your chosen apprenticeship pathway.
