Sport, Exercise & Health Mix
If you are interested in a career in sport, coaching and physical education this course is ideal to develop the skills and knowledge required for working in this industry or to lead you on to further higher education study.
You will develop an understanding of the careers in the sport and active leisure industry, exploring the importance of physical and mental well-being. You will develop your coaching knowledge and skills to help others' performance skills, techniques and tactics across a range of sports.
Entry requirements
A Level Mix options are equivalent to one A Level. You can take two A Level subjects and one ‘Mix’ subject.
The core entry requirement for A Level and ‘Mix’ study at York College is a minimum of four GCSEs at grade 5 with GCSE English Language and Maths at grade 4. This does not include GCSE equivalents (e.g. BTEC courses). Short course GCSE is counted as half of a full GCSE.
What will I study?
You will study three units:
- Careers in the Sport and Active Leisure Industry
- Health, Wellbeing and Sport
- Developing Coaching Skills
Method of delivery
Lessons will be delivered through a mixture of theory and practical coaching sessions.
How will I be assessed?
Assessment is by coursework and practical coaching assessments.
Good course combinations
This course combines well with Science and Humanities subjects, particularly Biology, Psychology and Sociology.

Your next steps
This qualification supports progression directly into employment in the coaching and development sector as an Assistant Coach. When studied alongside A Level subjects it also supports progression to a wide range of higher education courses.
