Entry Level 3

This exciting course gives you the opportunity to start your journey at College at a pace tailored to you. The Entry Level 3 course aims to give you the opportunity to learn and build your confidence in the basic skills required to use digital technology. From basic IT usage to creative computing projects such as beginner animation and beginner digital illustration, this course is here to give you the confidence and skills to move on to our Level 1 in Creative Computing, Media and Games.

While studying with us you will develop subject specific skills including an introduction to IT basics that can be used in employment; knowledge and experience with programmes such as Procreate design software and a wide range of Apps that will enhance your learning further. Areas covered could include: Digital Illustration, Film, Film Editing, Animation and Photography. You will work both independently and within groups with support from our Learning Support Team to complete work for several units.

If you have not achieved Maths and English at a GCSE grade 4 or above, you will continue to study these as part of this course.

This course is far more individualised and aimed at students who may need a tailored programme of support when transitioning from school to College.

Entry requirements

Entry requirements are discussed on an individualised basis, but it is expected that some students may join us with no formal GCSEs. Students with no formal qualifications will be assessed before enrolment. You must have a keen interest in digital technologies including creative and interactive media.

What will I study?

You will complete a number of units over the year that will develop your skills and these could include:

  • Skills for Learning
  • Team Challenge
  • Finding Out About A Topic (Research)
  • Designing and Creating a Product
  • Using Technology for a Purpose

These units aim to develop a wide variety of digital skills that can be utilised in numerous different areas such as Digital Technologies, Games Development and Digital Media.

This course is an exciting opportunity to develop your skills and knowledge in a safe and supportive environment with support from our Learning Support Team.

You will use IPads in most of your units and these are provided to you by College for use within lessons.

Students who have not yet achieved a GCSE grade 4 in English and Maths will continue studying both of these subjects alongside the course. This may not be at GCSE level.

    Additional costs

There are no set additional costs, but all students will always require a pair of headphones on them as these will be required in sessions.

    Method of delivery

Learning will occur through demonstration, followed by active exploration of a variety of tools and applications that enhance your learning further before producing evidence in the form of project work.

    How will I be assessed?

This course is assessed using a variety of assignments that require students to complete written assignments, practical projects and portfolios.

    Good course combinations
