"I’d studied a Level 3 course at College previously so I knew that York College offered fantastic tutors and a nice atmosphere, so it seemed like a great next step to study at the University Centre.

York College is an Institute of Technology that offers specialist facilities such as the cybersecurity lab, which really enhances student learning. Studying at York College University Centre felt more personal than a larger university environment, and I can’t recommend it highly enough.

I’m now planning on further study to top-up my foundation degree to a full BSc (Hons) degree. In the future I’d like a career in either the computer science or cybersecurity industries."

“I work for Barratt Homes as a trainee Quantity Surveyor and to help my development they suggested I undertake the HNC at York College University Centre.

This means I’m getting the opportunity to study whilst also working at the same time. Barratt Homes are also funding my education which is great for my career development.

I decided to continue my education at York College University Centre as it offered the HNC which is a highly recognised qualification in the construction industry. My tutors are very engaged in my development and they want me to achieve my goals, both in College and in my career. If I ever struggle in any modules, my tutors are always on hand to offer extra support and tutorials.

Once I’ve completed my course I’d like to progress further within the company and eventually become a qualified quantity surveyor.”

“I was working in the construction industry and had always focused on the more practical side, so studying this course gave me a great opportunity to learn more about the legal and operational elements of the industry. It was great to have more of an in-depth knowledge of contracts and the legal information in the industry.

I chose York College University Centre as it was local, convenient and the study model meant it was easier to fit around my work commitments than other options.

I enjoyed my experience at York College University Centre, it was great to get back into learning again and be taught by tutors who are specialists in their fields.

I now own a joinery company, and studying the HNC really helped me to learn lots of new skills, including the legalities of running my own construction business."
