This course is ideal for those who are passionate about making a difference in people’s lives and aspire to work within the social care sector. It provides the essential knowledge, understanding, and practical skills needed to begin or advance a rewarding career in social care.

Entry requirements

A minimum of 5 GCSE subjects at grade 4 or above including English and Maths, or a Level 2 Diploma in Health & Social Care.

Additional costs

You will be required to complete a successful Disclosure and Barring Service (DBS) check prior to starting the course, for which there will be a charge. Students will be required to purchase a York College polo shirt and optional hoodie. Information will be provided at enrolment.

Method of delivery

You will be taught face-to-face in a classroom setting as well as attending your work placement which is a total of 30 hours over the 2 years.

How will I be assessed?

You are assessed through assignments. 

Good course combinations

This is a full-time course. It is not possible to combine this course with other Vocational, Apprenticeship or A Level programmes.

Your next steps

This course is designed to allow students to move on to Higher Education within the Health and Social Care field including degrees in Health Care, Nursing, Social Work and Counselling or progress in to related employment including (but not limited to) care worker, personal assistant, community support and outreach worker and activities coordinator.
