Motor Vehicle Service and Maintenance Technician Level 3
This apprenticeship is ideal for those apprentices who have just completed Level 2 and would like to now further their knowledge and skill set within the motor vehicle industry. Employers are looking for highly motivated, highly skilled and fully qualified Motor Technicians. Completing Level 3 gives the apprentice all the requirements to move onto the MOT Inspector role after undertaking a further course.
Entry requirements
You must be employed in the relevant area for a minimum of 30 hours per week. You will have completed a Level 2 Apprenticeship in Motor Vehicle Maintenance or equivalent qualification. Candidates should have 4 GCSEs at grade 4 or above which should ideally include Maths and English or the minimum of Level 1 Functional Skills in Maths and English.
What will I study?
As a Level 3 apprentice, you will further develop your knowledge and start to enhance your diagnostic skills. As you develop your diagnostic skills and repair knowledge, you will be constantly assessed by your employer and work-based assessor and will keep a logbook that will record all your soft skills, your professional development and behaviour.
A Motor Vehicle Service and Maintenance Technician services and repairs light vehicles such as cars and vans. They work either in dealerships which a focus on a particular manufacturer or in an independent garage which deals with many different makes of vehicles. Day-to-day work ranges from replacing simple parts through to solving complex faults with the use of diagnostic methods and equipment. The tasks faced are constantly changing, driven by the introduction of ever more complex technologies and diagnostic techniques.
Method of delivery
Apprentices attend College on day release for two years of the apprenticeship and spend the final year at work. At College they will learn the knowledge required to attain the apprenticeship and ta work based assessor will visit the workplace to carry out reviews and practical observations in conjunction with the employer.
How will I be assessed?
The apprentice must be competent and have covered all the criteria to be deemed ready for End-Point Assessment (EPA) and must achieve passes in all Functional Skills for their level qualification prior to EPA. (Apprentices are exempt from Functional Skills in Maths and English if they have previously gained a Grade 4 or above at GCSE Maths and English).

Additional costs
There are no specific College programme related costs, however you will be advised of any additional costs during your application and enrolment process.

- VRQ Level 3 Diploma in Light Vehicle Maintenance & Repair Principles
- Functional Skills Level 2 in Math
- Functional Skills Level 2 in English
- Apprenticeship and certificate that meets the EUs 2014 F-Gas Regulation
Good course combinations
This is a full-time course. It is not possible to combine this course with other Vocational, T Level or A Level programmes.
