This course is ideal for anyone who wants to develop their knowledge of leadership and management in order to achieve high performance in the operational management role within the business environment.

Entry requirements

We recommend that students have the following:  

A Level 3 qualification in Business or other related Level 3 qualifications and grade A*- C or 9 - 4 in GCSE Maths and English. Alternatively, an Access to HE Diploma, relevant work experience or an International equivalent to the above qualifications.

How will I be assessed?

 A range of real and simulated assessment activities, for example, to encourage cooperation and social skills or a solution-focused case studies and assignments to develop cognitive skills.

The BTEC Higher National qualification provides a clear line of sight to employment, developing work ready graduates with the professional skills and behaviours that employers need.

Method of delivery

The teaching, learning and assessment methods are designed to enable progress through the programme levels. Group and individual tasks, lectures and workshop to develop your develop your understanding. This also includes supervised assessment activities such as invigilated exams, observed assessments and observed work-based practice. Method of delivery may include: classroom based learning, work based learning, live webinar, live e-learning and independent study. 

Additional costs

No additional costs are expected for this course, although students should have access to an internet enabled laptop or PC.

Your next steps

The Level 5 Higher National Diploma allows students to progress to degree-level study, or into employment at lower/middle management roles. Once students have achieved the Level 5 Higher National Diploma, they can develop their career in the respective sector by: 

  • entering employment
  • continuing existing employment
  • linking with the appropriate professional body
  • committing to continuing professional development, or
  • studying at university.

Chris Burley

Chris has been a Business lecturer for 10 years and has over 25 years of teaching experience in a variety of organisations, including secondary schools and sixth form colleges. He previously worked in shipping, accounting at a pharmaceuticals distribution company and in the fraud department of a major high street bank. His main academic interests are micro-economics, ethics and customer experience management. Chris is a member of the Chartered Management Institute (CMI) and CIPD (Chartered Institute of Personnel and Development).

Linda Laverick

MA in Professional Development, CIPD Post-Graduate Diploma in HRM, Cert Ed, Linda has been a Business and Management lecturer for 30+ years. She has significant experience designing, implementing and delivering a wide range of HE programmes across a range of curriculum. Her experience in industry includes employment consultancy and employment and redundancy liaison, involvement in local/regional partnership committees at strategic level, dealing with redundancy, employment issues and legislation in organisations across the region. Her main academic interests are Strategic Human Resource Management, Employment Legislation and Equality and Diversity.
