Care Leavers invited to learn new DIY skills in free workshop

Are you a Care Leaver who would like to learn some valuable DIY skills for free?

If you are, then we would love to welcome you at York College & University Centre for a Construction Cares Three-Day DIY Workshop that will be run by the GMI Construction Group.

The workshop, which will be hosted in College’s new multi-million pound Construction Centre Extension, is fully-funded and will take place from Monday, February 12th to Wednesday, February 14th.

Sessions will last from 9.30am to 3pm every day with lunch and refreshments provided and travel costs reimbursed.

The programme is intended to provide anybody who is preparing to leave the care system or has recently transitioned to independent living with hands-on experience and training in construction-related industries, such as plumbing, carpentry and painting and decorating.

Everybody who completes the course will also receive a toolkit, an award and an opportunity to acquire work experience in a chosen trade.

A Care Leaver is defined as a young person aged between 16 and 25 who has been “looked after” at some point since they were 14 years old and were in care on or after their 16th birthday.

If you fulfil that criteria and are interested in the workshop, please email SNewtonDenton@yorkcollege.ac.uk

Ideally, you should also be available to attend an Information Session on Wednesday, January 24th from 3.30pm to 4.15pm.
