This course is designed to help build your skills and confidence so that you can hit the ground running on an Access to Higher Education Diploma or degree programme at York College & University Centre.

You will be supported in learning IT skills relevant for study, as well as develop your academic writing, research and study skills. This short course will help your explore career progression and help prepare you for your next steps.

Course units

BTEC Subsidiary Award in Work Skills - Unit 7, Planning for Career Entry, consisting of:

  • Career Skills
  • IT Skills for Study
  • Academic Writing Skills
  • Research & Study Skills

Assessments

There are no formal exams, but you will submit a small portfolio of work.

Course progression

This course is for those ready to study at Level 3. Those ready for Level 2 study will be signposted to appropriate next steps.

From this course you will be better prepared to embark on any of our Access to HE diplomas or degree programmes (providing you meet the entry requirements).

Tuesdays, 3.00pm-6.00pm.

Study methods

A range of teaching styles will be used. This course will be delivered onsite, face-to-face.

Students have access to a fantastic range of College-wide facilities such as the Learning & Research Centre, study hubs, computer areas with accompanying multi-function printers and helpdesk advice.
