Ladies Who Lift
Strength training, also known as resistance or weight training, has many health benefits. However, some studies show that some women might be missing out on all that strength training has to offer. This course is designed to provide an introduction to correct form, technique and routines to incorporate weight training into women’s fitness.
Entry requirements
There are no formal entry requirements for this course, but students must have an interest in weight training and complete a Physical Activity Readiness questionnaire.

There is no assessment for this course.
Course fees
This course is free for those who live within the York and North Yorkshire Combined Authority, earn less than £35k a year, and have not have studied any previous tailored learning courses with us. Students can only do one tailored learning course regardless of the discipline.
Course progression
We have a number of other courses for adults, including lots of Sports courses such as the YMCA Level 2 Gym Instructing and YMCA Level 3 Personal Training.

Study methods
This course is a practical, hands-on course and students will learn in a friendly and professional environment.
Facilities
York College's Athletic Suite is a fully-resourced gym which includes resistance training equipment, free weights and a cardio suite. Students will have the opportunity to use these facilities throughout the course.

There are no additional costs for this course.
Career progression
The course provides an introduction to weight training for preventative and health measures but it also gives insight into the fitness and leisure industry. You may decide to pursue other courses either for pleasure or to enhance your employability/existing skills.
