Who is this course aimed at?

Adults who are interested in learning to record and mix music and audio in a recording studio. This could be for practising musicians who enjoy music as a hobby, voice-over artists looking to record at home, or performers who want to develop their music technology skills in a studio.

Overview of the course

This course provides an introduction to music production and the basic technical skills needed to record music and audio. On this course your tutor will guide you through the fundamentals of theory, technique and concepts, working in the recording studio, making reference to contemporary music examples. You will also be encouraged to bring in projects to get feedback.

Entry Requirements

No previous learning is required, however a passion for either music or audio production is essential.

8 weeks.

Course Modules/units

  • Using Cubase 9 confidently
  • Understand how a recording studio works
  • Ability to record a range of instruments in a studio environment
  • Understanding what hardware or software you may need
  • Awareness of basic mixing practices and processes
  • Being able to select the right microphone for the job

Teaching Method(s)

Students will be taught by a specialist music technology tutor in an industry standard recording studio. The course is mostly practical based, but recording theory will be covered.

About the course tutors

Luke Lount is a tutor of A-level Music Technology and Vocational Music. He is a touring musician and composer, performing for a variety of artists and composing and producing music for a range of projects, including adverts and television. He also works as a DJ and Music Producer. Luke has worked with many international clients such as Land Rover, H&M, Samsung, Teen Mom USA and Terry Deary.
