This course aims to help people who would like a Level 1 or 2 qualification in Maths or who want to do a GCSE but haven’t been in education for some time. We will help you to develop your maths skills.
Some qualifications will start with an introductory course to build your confidence, check your starting point and build your basic skills.
You do not need formal qualifications, but would be expected to have an assessment interview to place you on the correct level course.
Dates and Times
22nd September - 22nd June 2021, Tuesday evening.
23rd Septemeber - 23rd June 2021, Wednesday morning.
You will have the opportunity to:
- Learn or improve your basic number skills
- Know how to calculate, measure and handle money at home or work
- Use the four rules of numbers, fractions, decimals and percentages
- Use a calculator
- Use and interpret charts, graphs, tables and statistics
- Develop problem-solving skills
The courses are delivered by experienced tutors using a variety of interesting resources. Sessions are friendly and fun and allow you to work at your own pace.
Exams and Assessments
The course has an end assessment for a Functional Skills qualification in Maths.

Students successfully completing the course can move on to the next level, Access or GCSEs. They also use the skills developed to improve their chances of employment or to progress in their jobs.
For most people the course will be FREE as they are funded by the government. However, if you already have a GCSE grade C or above in this subject, are studying for a higher education qualification, or haven’t lived in the UK or EU for the past three years, there may be a fee.
