There are no formal entry requirements. No previous knowledge of Italian is required.

Course Content

Students will acquire basic communication skills in Italian in familiar situations; this includes topics such as:

  • Introducing yourself & talking about family
  • Talking about where you're from
  • What you do for a living
  • Ordering food and drink in a bar
  • Handling money and general shopping
  • Understanding what there is in town and simple directions
  • Hobbies / Leisure time
  • Daily Routine
  • Weather
  • Booking and checking into a hotel
  • Public and private transport
  • Shopping for food and clothes

The course consists mainly of classroom tuition with activities organised around the skills of speaking, listening and reading.

Teaching Method(s)

There is a practical approach to the subject, involving listening to recorded material spoken by native speakers, pair and group work to practise speaking and reading graded material.

Exams and Assessments

Regular in-course assessment will enable learners to monitor their progress and this will be reviewed by the tutor. There is no external assessment. The emphasis is on having fun while learning and using the language to communicate.

Qualification(s)

There is no formal qualification for this course. You will receive a College Certificate of Attendance to show you have attended.

Small, optional amounts – always a good idea to review and practise at home.

Do I need a text book?

Some classes decide collectively that they would like this. It’s always helpful to have access to online dictionaries and online language learning apps can be recommended.

Progression

Students will be able to progress from Beginners 1 to Beginners 2, later in the year. Students who wish to start Beginners 2 should have basic grammatical knowledge eg regular verbs, use of the definite article and basic adjective agreements. Course Fees

The cost of this course is £200 for each 10 week block.
